Frequently asked questions
What exactly is a cube?
A cube is a sleep-when-idle build sandbox: an isolated environment with your toolchain, your caches and your source, that exists only while a build is running. When the build finishes the cube is frozen — memory, caches and all — and costs nothing until the next build wakes it.
What is a cube-hour?
Sixty minutes of a cube being awake, metered per second. Ten builds of six minutes each is one cube-hour, whether they ran on one cube or ten. Sleeping never meters.
Do unused cube-hours roll over?
No. Hours are hours and cubes are cubes; neither is a savings account. If you regularly finish the month with hours left, a smaller rock may fit you better.
Is Mountain really unlimited?
It is unlimited-ish. Build as much as you honestly need to build. If a single tenant starts consuming a geological share of the fleet we will write you a very polite email, and then a slightly less polite one.
What happens when a Pebble runs out of hours?
Running builds finish — we never stop a build mid-compile, that would be rude. New builds queue until the month rolls over or you upgrade, whichever comes first.
Can I pay in orbs?
We accept orbs at par, one orb per cube, though frankly the exchange flatters the orb. An orb is just a cube that lost its edges.
Is any of this real?
The pricing is fiction — Cubes is a demo tenant on the sola-os minicloud, built to prove the platform end to end. The invoice PDF, however, is real: the console renders it through the platform catalog's latex-to-pdf service, live. And the support form files into the platform's actual support channel.
